The X Files Tiger, Tiger

The X - Files: Tiger, Tiger

By Les Martin

Author:

Les Martin is famous for his books for younger readers, he mainly wrote adaptations of movies or, as in this case, of TV - series, for example "Raiders of the lost Arc", "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" or "The Adventures of the Young Indiana Jones".

Summary:

The novel deals with the main-characters of the  "X-Files" - series, FBI - special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The story is about animals, that tried, as it seemed, to flee from the "Fair Field Zoo" in Idaho. The two agents found out that the amok - outraged animals were probably kidnapped by extraterrestrial beings. These aliens perhaps stocked up their own zoos with animals which are close to extinction on earth, but Mulder and Scully have no evidence to prove their assumption.

Characters:

Special - agent Dana Scully studied in California and Maryland. After having graduated in 1986 in physics and medicine, she enrolled herself at the FBI - academy in Quantico, Virginia and later became partner of agent Mulder because of her professional competence. She is a selfsure, realistic, sceptic and faithful catholic.

Special - agent Fox Mulder grew up in Chillmark, Massachusetts and studied psychology in Oxford and graduated there. After he became agent of the FBI, he found the X - Files that include supernatural, secret and inexplicable files of the FBI. He is a selfsure, ambitious, honest, experienced and hard - working man, who, in contrary to his partner beliefs in the Jewish faith - besides, he explains everything which is or seems supernatural with aliens.

Interpretation:

I think that the author tries to show us how badly we treat our animals - aliens come and save them from us because we destroy them for the lust of money, for example the elephants because of their horns made of ivory.

Opinion:

I simply love the X - Files and therefore enjoyed them also in a written version. I think the series "plays" very good with the common "phenomenon" of people, believing in something that is more powerful than themselves. Gods and Goddesses are nowadays outdated and substituted by aliens, which are used as explanation for every supernatural or simply inexplicable phenomenon.
